(Caracas. 03/18/24) María Corina Machado intervened this Wednesday before the UN Human Rights Watch Fact-Finding Mission to take stock of the electoral route and the escalation of violence by the regime against opposition leaders.

«Venezuelans have the opportunity this year to advance in the democratic transition through clean and free presidential elections. We have made progress: we managed to unify all opposition forces through primary elections in which almost three million Venezuelans participated inside and outside the country, and from which a legitimized leadership emerged,» she detailed.

Therefore, the presidential candidate assured that within the framework of the electoral route, the regime knows it is lost, for which, in her opinion, Maduro intends to sabotage the process and prevent the participation of the opposition leader.

«There has been an increase in repression and persecution of citizens and members of our campaign commands. There are 264 political prisoners in Venezuela, among them four members of our campaign commands: Juan Freites, Luis Camacaro, Emil Brandt, and Guillermo López, on February 15, members of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights were expelled from Venezuela,» she denounced.

María Corina insisted that Venezuelans want to vote in the presidential elections of this year, but she stressed that not in just any election, while in a process in which they truly choose.

«We continue because, we want to vote, and we want to choose. (…) We need all of you raising your voices to stop the persecution and the violation of human rights in Venezuela and so that there can be clean and free elections that lead to democracy, freedom, and peace in our country,» she concluded.
