Maduro y su régimen se creen intocables, se consideran más allá de la ley y de la justicia

La sentencia salió de Miraflores. Sin pruebas, sin juicio, sin defensa. He sido condenada por quienes están en el poder en Venezuela y por quienes les ordenan desde La Habana. Intentaron callarme con golpes, cuando hace un año me atacaron, patearon y fracturaron mi cara en plena sesión del Parlamento; me despojaron arbitrariamente de mi inmunidad, y ahora pretenden aniquilarme moral y físicamente.
En los últimos meses, el régimen me ha acusado de todo. Me acusaron de terrorismo por revelar la responsabilidad de la gerencia de Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) en el peor accidente petrolero en la historia del país, en la refinería de Amuay; de traición a la Patria por denunciar en la Organización de Estados Americanos la represión y la violación masiva y sistemática a los Derechos Humanos. Ahora me acusan de magnicidio por apoyar el histórico movimiento social de protesta que ha emergido en Venezuela desde el mes de febrero. Es una persecución política sistemática basada en mentiras.
Maduro y su régimen se creen intocables, se consideran más allá de la ley y de la justicia. Las sentencias judiciales en Venezuela se redactan en el Palacio de Miraflores y se envían a los jueces. Para neutralizar a los disidentes está la imagen de la juez María Lourdes Afiuni, “condenada” a 30 años de prisión por el entonces presidente Chávez en un discurso televisado hace cinco años. Su delito fue atender a su conciencia. Su rostro seguramente apareció frente a la jueza Adriana López esta semana, cuando dictaminó que Leopoldo López y dos estudiantes debían permanecer en prisión durante este juicio sumario. Las pruebas que presentó la Fiscalía contra López son “la interpretación” de un supuesto perito sobre las “verdaderas” intenciones de Leopoldo en tres discursos públicos y en su cuenta de Twitter. La naturaleza de estas pruebas sólo confirman dos cosas: la inocencia de los acusados y la determinación del régimen de aterrorizar a la gente y aniquilar a sus adversarios.
El pretexto para acusarme de magnicidio son correos electrónicos obviamente fabricados, que fueron divulgados en una histriónica rueda de prensa en la cual el “Alto Mando Político de la Revolución” —que incluye al Vicepresidente de la República, al presidente de PDVSA, al presidente de la Asamblea Nacional, al alcalde de Caracas y a la esposa de Maduro, entre otros— “develaron” un supuesto complot internacional para desestabilizar al país y asesinar a Maduro.
Al régimen ya ni siquiera le importan las formas, ni tampoco trata de ocultar que actúa de manera ilegal. El montaje es tan burdo que ante la evidencia del forjamiento de los correos que Google certificara, seguramente inventará algo nuevo.
Aunque las delirantes acusaciones han generado una burla colectiva hasta en muchos seguidores del oficialismo, la realidad es que me difaman y por su incitación al odio, recibo hoy amenazas contra mi vida y la de mis hijos. Además, he sido citada a declarar en la Fiscalía General de la República el día de mañana, 16 de junio, en calidad de “testigo”. Ante ello, el Capitán Cabello, presidente de la Asamblea Nacional, declaró: “Yo he visto a más de un testigo que termina como imputado y he visto a más de un testigo que fue imputado y fue condenado”. Este mismo señor dijo esta semana: “Si Maduro es asesinado, María Corina Machado pagará por sus acciones”.
Me atacan porque creen que un castigo “ejemplarizante” callará a las madres venezolanas que claman por justicia a diario frente a los tribunales y las morgues; a las que pasan horas en colas humillantes para comprar leche en los mercados; a las que ruegan por que le salven la vida a su hijo en hospitales paupérrimos, sin medicinas ni equipos elementales. Creen que callarán a las estudiantes que encabezan las protestas, a los periodistas que desafían la censura, a las maestras que combaten el adoctrinamiento escolar, a las madres de los jóvenes asesinados, detenidos y torturados por la represión del régimen. Se equivocan. Quince años de lucha ciudadana ejemplar y el admirable movimiento de protesta cívica que despertó este histórico febrero de 2014, han dejado claro que no doblegarán al pueblo de Venezuela.
El régimen está desesperado; el colapso económico, institucional y moral que se acelera cada día, ha derrumbado el apoyo político que heredó Maduro. Tanta mentira y cinismo producen repulsión en una sociedad honesta y trabajadora que anhela desesperadamente avanzar por una ruta a la libertad y a la dignidad, que nos permita reencontrarnos en un renovado pacto social. Los venezolanos sabemos que llegó la hora de enfrentar la dictadura instalada en Venezuela. Intentan chantajearnos amenazándonos de provocar una guerra civil por negarnos a vivir en sumisión. Ni guerra civil, ni sumisión, nuestra decisión es avanzar en la transición hacia la democracia.
Nuestro propósito es lograr, lo antes posible, un cambio de régimen en Venezuela por una vía constitucional, democrática, pacífica y electoral. La ruta es clara e inequívoca: ni magnicidio, ni golpe de Estado: exigimos la renuncia de Maduro.

Maduro and his régime believe they are untouchable, they consider themselves to be above the law and above justice

The sentencing originated in Miraflores. Without evidence, without a trial, without a defense. I have been sentenced by those who are in power in Venezuela, and by those who send them orders from Havana. They tried to silence me with the blows I received a year ago while they attacked me, kicked me and fractured my face in the middle of a full session of the Parliament; they arbitrarily stripped me of my immunity, and now they are attempting to annihilate me spiritually and physically.
During the last few months, the régime has accused me of everything. They accused me of terrorism for revealing that the management at Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) was responsible for the worst oil industry accident in the country’s history, at the Amuay refinery; of high treason for denouncing before the Organization of American States the repression and the massive and systematic violation of Human Rights. Now they accuse me of presidential assassination for having supported the historic social protest movement that emerged in Venezuela starting in the month of February. It is a systematic political persecution based on lies.
Maduro and his régime believe they are untouchable, they consider themselves to be above the law and above justice. In Venezuela, judicial sentences are drafted at Miraflores Palace and sent to the judges. For purposes of neutralizing dissidents they present the image of Judge María Lourdes Afiuni, “sentenced” to 30 years in prison by the then President Chávez during a televised speech five years ago. Her crime was having followed her own conscience. Her image certainly appeared before Judge Adriana López this week as she ruled that Leopoldo López and two students must remain in prison during this summary trial. The evidence presented by the Office of the Attorney General against López consists of “the interpretation” by an alleged expert witness concerning Leopoldo’s “true” intentions during three public speeches and on his Twitter account. The nature of the evidence presented confirms only two things: the innocence of the defendants and the régime’s determination to terrorize the people and to annihilate its adversaries.
The pretext for accusing me of presidential assassination consists of obviously fabricated emails, which were revealed during a theatrical press conference where the “Political High Command of the Revolution” – which included the Vice President of the Republic, the President of PDVSA, the President of the National Assembly, the Mayor of Caracas and Maduro’s wife, among others – “disclosed” an alleged international plot to destabilize the country and assassinate Maduro.
The régime does not even care about form anymore, nor does it try to hide the fact it is acting in an illegal manner. The farce is so clumsy that when faced with the evidence of the forgery of the emails, to which Google will certify, they will certainly invent something new.
Even though the delirious accusations have generated collective ridicule, even among many followers of the officialdom, the fact remains that they are defaming me, and through their incitement to hatred, today I am receiving threats against my life and that of my children. Furthermore, I have been summoned to testify before the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic tomorrow, June 16th, in the capacity of “witness.” In light of that, Captain Cabello, President of the National Assembly, stated: “I have seen more than one witness who ends up being indicted and have seen more than one witness that was indicted and convicted.” Last week this same gentleman said: “If Maduro is assassinated, María Corina Machado will pay for her actions.”
They attack me because they believe that a punishment “to set an example” will silence Venezuelan mothers who cry out for justice everyday in front of courthouses and morgues; those who spend hours standing in humiliating lines to buy milk at the markets, those who plea for the life of their child at penniless hospitals that lack medications and basic equipment. They believe they will silence the students who lead the protests, the journalists who defy censorship, the teachers who fight back against indoctrination at the schools, the mothers of youths who have been murdered, detained and tortured by the régime’s repression. They are mistaken. Fifteen years of exemplary struggle by our citizens, and the admirable civic protest movement that awakened this historic February of 2014, has made it clear that they will not subdue the Venezuelan people.
The régime is desperate; the economical, institutional and moral collapse that hastens by the day has demolished the political support that Maduro inherited. So much cynicism and lies produces repulsion from an honest and hard-working society that desperately yearns for a path to freedom and dignity, which will allow us to meet again under a renewed social contract. In Venezuela we know that the hour has come to confront the dictatorship that has entrenched itself in Venezuela. They try to blackmail us by threatening us saying we are provoking a civil war by refusing to live in submission. No civil war, no submission: our decision is to move forward in the transition toward democracy.
Our purpose is to accomplish, as soon as possible, a change of régime in Venezuela by constitutional, democratic, peaceful and electoral means. The path is clear and unequivocal: no presidential assassination, no coup d’état: we demand Maduro’s resignation.
